Survey reveals the top names Irish people give their pets

Pop culture, sport, TV and the weather have all influenced new pet names for 2018.

A study has revealed the top names Irish people give their furry friends.

Just Cats Veterinary Clinic surveyed 70,000 patients, feline and canine, across 13 veterinary clinics over a 12 month period.

They discovered cat owners are more influenced by trends and current affairs, while dog owners continue to give their pooches human-like names.

UFC star Conor McGregor inspired the top two places on the cat list, McGregor and Notorious, while Jon Snow and Khaleesi from Game of Thrones took third and fourth spot.

Ophelia was the fifth most popular name for cats, with Trump taking sixth place.

The top names for dogs were Molly, Charlie, Max, Daisy, Toby and Bella.
