Turns out it's a lot deeper than first thought.

The mysterious Instagram account with a picture of an egg has revealed the real reason behind it.

The world-record egg, which has 10 million followers and has been liked over 52 million times, appeared in a Super Bowl ad promoting mental health awareness.

The message reads "Recently I've started to crack... the pressure of social media is getting to me", as the egg on the screen breaks apart.

It's followed by the words "If you're struggling, talk to someone".

Man behind the egg.

The man behind the egg has been revealed as 29-year-old Chris Godfrey, who works for creative agency The & Partnership in central London.

Mr Godfrey posted the image on January 4 with the caption: “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”

Safe to say the egg has certainly had the desired impact... and then some.
