Keoghan, who is 28 years old, is also set to star in Marvel's Eternals with Angelina Jolie later this year.
He is also not the only Irish actor on the line-up for the new DC epic, with Colin Farrell also appearing as one of Batman's most famous villains The Penguin.
In a recently released set of pictures, Farrell is unrecognizable as Oswald Cobblepot.
Keoghan is playing Stanley Merkel, a police officer in Gotham who is known as Jim Gordon's first partner.
The Batman will follow the titular character during his second year as a crime fighter, with more of a focus on his skills as a detective, in what is reportedly an a new spin on Batman's origin story.
The movie will star Robert Pattinson, along with Andy Serkis, and Zoë Kravitz is taking up the mantle as Catwoman.
Matt Reeves is directing the film, which was originally due out on June 2021, but was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
It is now expected to hit cinemas in March 2022.
