Shoppers are being warned about scams as Black Friday approaches

Revenue is warning that if Black Friday deals seem too good to be true, they usually are exactly that.

It's urging online shoppers to double check the website URLs before spending money online.

It says an 'ie' web address doesn't always mean the business is based in Ireland, and non-EU deliveries will be subject to extra charges.

Revenue is also urging online shoppers to be aware of fake products.

Tax inspectors seized nearly 6 million euro worth of counterfeit items last year.

The Irish Times reports that retailers face fines of up to €5,000 if discounts are not genuine.

Tech correspondent Jess Kelly urges people not to buy " from a website that you have never heard of before."

She also encourages people to use Trustpilot to check if websites are legitimate.
