Study claims we will date someone we hate for months before breaking up

How long have you put off breaking up with someone?

A new study says that most adults will date someone they are planning to break up with for about two months before cutting it off.

Experts spoke to 2,000 adults and found 48% have been in a relationship which they felt had reached its expiry date, but continued to stay in it.

More than one in 10 have even held onto a failing relationship for more than six months before calling it quits.

The also found 29% held off ending things until after an event or special occasion.

While 7 in 10 have postponed the dumping because their partner’s birthday was just around the corner.

It also claims that 50% have  waited until after a pre-planned holiday.

Two-thirds have spent Christmas with a significant other only to end it shortly after while 3 in 10 have waited until just after the New Year.

Researchers found 43% have held off breaking up with someone because they didn’t want to hurt their feelings while 17% were afraid of being alone.

While 1 in 10 said it allows them to be single by Valentine’s day, while 14 per cent believe it’s the best way so they can kiss someone else when midnight strikes.
