The Samaritans are asking people to turn "Blue Monday" on its head by prioritising a catch up with a loved one.

The third Monday of January is often considered the toughest days of the year for people struggling with their mental health.

Regional Director of the Samaritans Rory Fitzgerald is encouraging people to chat with a friend over a virtual cup of tea as part of their "Brew Monday" initiative.

Samaritans say:

Feeling alone with your problems can have a big impact on your mental health.

Reach out to a friend, family member or colleague for a virtual cuppa and a chat.

It doesn’t have to be a Monday or a cup of tea, just taking time to really listen to another person could help them work through what’s on their mind.

Because now more than ever, sharing a cuppa is more than a drink – it's about reaching out, checking in and staying connected.

Share the warmth and socialise safely; there are many ways you can connect virtually.
