Cadbury Easter eggs have reduced in size by almost 10 per cent in the last three years.

The research found that consumers are getting around 25 grams less chocolate per box.

it follows a seven per cent fall in weight between 2018 and 2019, which the firm blamed on surging wholesale cocoa prices.

Global supplies issues, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine have contributed to price hikes in Cocoa and sugar.

Consumer Journalist Siobhan Maguire explains how confectionery retailers are slowly reducing the size of products.

"Where there is a lot of packaging used in a product, it's easier for retailers sometimes to downsize the product itself, than make the packaging smaller," Siobhan explains.

It's the latest news of shrinkage from Cadbury - in January Wispa became the latest bar to shrink down in size, in an effort by to keep bars below 200 calories.

While in 2020, the brand cut the size of four popular bars – Curly Wurlys, Fudge Bars and Chomps – but it doesn’t look like they’re done yet.
