A study of 2,000 car owners found one in six are self-conscious of their motor and almost half (49 per cent) feel their car deserves more care than it’s currently given.

More than a third are simply embarrassed by the mess their car is in, with 41 per cent believing they’re ‘terrible’ at washing their motor.

If that sounds like you, the simplest thing to get your pig sty sorted is to a little bit of rubbish with you each time you get out, and once you're not instantly replacing it you should notice a bit of an improvement.

Car care product company Armor All commissioned the study and have compiled the following handy list:
