Cillian Murphy says one of the reasons he moved his family back to Ireland was because his children were developing 'posh English accents.'
He was speaking to the Armchair Expert podcast, prompting questions about what the average Joe Soap on the streets thinks about their children growing up with accents?
The English accent absolutely dominates pop culture here - case in point:
Even for kids!
Cillian Murphy explains part of why he's moved back to Ireland - himself and his wife Yvonne lived in the UK with their kids for over a decade.
"We wanted the kids to be Irish. They were still about that age where they were pre-teens with very posh English accents and I wasn't appreciating that too much".
Dr Chris Mulhall, Lecturer in French at Waterford IT has a particular interest in phraseology, he says Cillian's comments make sense:
"Accents identify you as being part of a group, or outside of a group. So therefore it may be that certain adults for maybe career or social prospects may well take on the accent of the target group that you want to be part of".
