Does your room look like this?

We've all felt the stress of looking at a messy room and know that you need to make some sort of effort to clean.

And as much as we know a full tidy is what's needed, a fair selection of us are more likely to literally just sweep it under the carpet.

Whether it's lighting a scented candle or stuffing everything into a wardrobe, 1 in 4 of us would rather hide the evidence of mess than actually make an effort to clean it.

A study of 2000 people by OnePoll on behalf of Seventh Generation found lighting a scented candle (37%) was the second most popular “cleaning shortcut” - but that's all well and good until the candle goes out, and your obnoxious odors return.

A quarter of respondents also admit to stuffing clutter into a cupboard or wardrobe when company comes over.

And just in case you're feeling a little bit lazy and looking for ways to cut some cleaning corners:

TOP 6 CLEANING SHORTCUTS:

  • Misting the room with air freshener 40%
  • Lighting a scented candle 37%
  • Making the bed, but not cleaning the rest of the room 29%
  • Putting all the clutter into a closet or room 25%
  • Placing a dryer sheet in the air vents 21%
  • Using a baking soda/vinegar mix on everything 21%
