There's no denying weddings are an expensive day out for the bride and groom.

When you factor in the dress, the suits and the cake, you've already raked up a hefty bill.

And with a cost of living crisis things are that bit more expensive.

Couples have to carefully decide on the number of people attending the wedding, as most venues charge per person.

According to planning site, OneFabDay.com, the average cost of a wedding in Ireland is €36 thousand.

According to Tyla.com, when it came to some people not showing up to their wedding, one couple hit back at the no-shows - with people debating if they did the right thing.

Dedra and Doug Simmons jetted off to Jamaica for the destination wedding of their dreams, where they had to pre-pay for all of their guests who had RSVP'd yes.

However, when it came to the day, 8 of the 109 guests didn't turn up - and didn't let the newlyweds know.

The Simmons shared an invoice for $240 (€220) addressed to those who had failed to show up on Facebook.

Groom Doug told the New York Post: “No one told me or texted me, ‘Hey, we can’t make it.' That’s all I was asking.

"If you tell me you can’t make it, I would be understanding - but to tell me nothing, but then let me pay for you and your plus ones?”

And while they later agreed their actions were a little petty, they insisted the statement 'wasn’t about the money' and was instead a 'teachable moment'.
