The Alt Bar in Killea don't want to hear it!

You might be a bit fed up with hearing the word Covid mentioned every turnabout.

Well, one bar in Co. Donegal has taken matters into their own hands by introducing a fine jar.

Any mention of Covid will result in a €2 donation to the jar, with proceeds going to support Donegal Hospice.

In a post on Facebook, the Alt Bar in Killea said:

"⚠️⚠️Warning⚠️

All customers coming to bar in the upcoming weeks, we have introduced a €2 fine for every time the word COVID is mentioned ???

All money recieved will be goin to a local charity ???"

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Christopher Moore and Conor McDevitt who introduced the jar said it had already collected €100, having only been introduced on Friday.

Speaking to the paper, Christopher said:

"We know Covid-19 is still there and in no way are we saying the situation isn't serious but we just want to have somewhere to go to escape from being reminded of the C-word."

"It was actually funny because after two years of talking about it, when we introduced the jar, there was silence. People didn't really know what else to talk about initially."

The staff must have good strong ears, even catching out local Councillor Paul Canning:

Let that be a warning to you, if you're heading for a pint in Killea, you may leave all Covid-chat at the door - or donate to a local charity.
