He's warned they could be harmful to pets.

A pet owner has issued a warning after his dog almost died from sniffing a reed diffuser.

Tim Rundle-Wood decided to add some scented reed diffusers to his new apartment. His beloved Spanish Water dog, Henry, had a sniff at one of the items.

However, it wasn't long before poor Henry was rushed to the vet.

Tim told Tyla.com the story:

"Henry began acting very strangely, so I tried to comfort him and saw that he was frothing at the mouth."

"He seemed to be frozen to the spot, so I tried to move him, and he gave out a blood-curdling squeal – it was at that point that I knew this was serious, so I called the vets imminently."

Tim rushed Henry to the vet, where he received emergency treatment. He was placed into an induced coma but thankfully, was able to return home after a week in the care of his vet.

The vets couldn't be sure what had caused the inhalation toxicity. However, they believed it to be one of the listed allergens, all of which were synthetic fragrances.

After Henry's illness, Tim began to research synthetic fragrances on the market. He said:

"I unearthed a shady world of synthetic fragrances mixed with nasty chemicals such as hormone inhibitors and petrochemicals, all hidden legally under words like Fragrance, Aroma and Parfume."

"This shook me to the core, and I'd been let down by the brands I trusted, as I felt mislead by their packaging and marketing."

Tim has now set up his own company Twoodle Co which uses 100% natural ingredients in their products.
