Only 1 in 10 drivers are likely to give up their car in the next five years.

New Bolt research shows over a third of motorists are aiming to reduce the number of car trips they take per week.

They're mainly looking at cutting out driving for recreational trips and a further 28 per cent hope to reduce using the car for grocery shopping.

Nearly half of the respondents to the survey cited the rise in fuel costs as one of the reasons why they'd like to reduce their reliance on a car.

Another reason given by over half was the general costs of running a car, with expenses such a motor insurance causing huge affordability problems for many motorists.

Meanwhile a quarter of those survey said they were inclined to give up their private vehicle ownership for environmental reasons.
