Some driving schools have increased their charge for lessons by up to 3 euro each - to cover the rising cost of fuel.

It could cost learner drivers up to 60 euro more to complete their mandatory programme, with instructors dealing with increases to petrol and diesel.

Learner drivers must complete 12 lessons with a qualified instructor before they apply for a test.

Kevin Horgan, managing director of Ladybird Driving School, says they're trying to keep prices as low as possible, but fuel costs were getting two high:

"We tried to keep it as low as we possibly could so that each student had a chance to spread out their costs, throughout training and college and fees. So we tried to add a €2 or €3 surcharge onto each lesson, which they're very prepared to pay".
