Ireland has been voted the the friendliest country in Europe.

Condé Nast travel magazine asked its readers to decide on their favourite countries, cities, hotels and resorts around the world as part of its annual readers choice awards survey.

The website, with 16 million monthly unique visitors, showed that Ireland took the lead and was voted on the number one spot for the most friendly country in Europe, and Dublin was voted the 6th friendliest city.

Portugal took second place with Greece coming in third.

Other countries on the list included Iceland, Finland, Turkey,  Denmark,  Netherlands,  Italy, and Spain.

Tourism Ireland chief executive Niall Gibbons expressed his delight with the news and commented about our nations friendliness being a unique selling point for tourists.

'It is the warm welcome and the ‘craic’ here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes the island of Ireland such a great choice for a short break or holiday,' he said.

This accolade by the readers of Condé Nast travel magazine gives Tourism Ireland another great platform to continue to promote Ireland around the world as a ‘must see’ destination'.
