Netflix has been cracking down on users dishing out their passwords to family and friends.

Reports suggest they've trialled new 'sub-accounts' which lets you transfer your details to a separate paid account.

The move will be welcomed by those who want to keep their watch history and algorithm.

It's expected the feature will be brought in worldwide early next year, having been trialed in South America this week.

Meanwhile, in other Netflix news, the new cheaper subscription featuring ads won't be available in Ireland.

At the time the move was announced, along with a hike in prices, the streamer was apparently hemorrhaging subscribers, with customers moving to better value-for-money deals with the likes of Amazon Prime or Disney Plus.

But Netflix has reversed recent subscriber losses by gaining millions of new users in the summer.

The firm picked up 2-point-4 million customers between July and September - bringing its total to 223-million.

It's now overtaken Disney Plus to claim the title of the largest streaming service - but that could change quickly once its rival reports its summertime results.
