But we do love our midnight snacks...

There are many healthy lifestyle tips we know, but don't necessarily follow.

We know we should have our 5 a day, cut down on the fatty foods and opt for wholegrain when we can.

Even though we may all know that it's best not to snack at night, we've now found research highlighting the benefits of resisting the 2am slice of toast.

Researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center say the time of day you eat is actually just as important as what you eat.

The study was done using rodents and found benefits based on what was consumed as well as the time of day.

Their study finds that cutting down on fatty and sugary foods AND having meals at the right time increased the longevity of mice by 35 percent.

According to studyfinds.org, experiments found the body clock’s daily rhythms play a big part in the benefits of a healthy diet.

And it makes sense really to keep the eating to your most active hours, which for many people is during the day.

We're not sure how it works though for those on a night shift, it could be the exact opposite.

The research also found that it's best to go big for breakfast or lunch rather than dinner.

Which means we're probably all doing it all wrong when we've our coffee and slice of toast for brekkie and then a roast dinner later...
