If the thought of eating something more exotic than goujons and chips sends shudders up your spine, it could be a bit more than the actual food that's putting you off.
It turns out picky eaters' tastes are influenced by the colour of their plate.
Researchers at the University of Portsmouth, found fussy eaters disliked food the most if it was served in a red bowl.
The study also found that red and blue bowls made the food seem saltier.
Different colour plates and bowls made no difference to non-fussy eaters.
One of the authors, Dr. Lorenzo Stafford said being a picky eater can take its toll:
“There is also a social cost because normally enjoyable moments between family members can easily turn into stressful, anxious, and conflict-causing situations when picky eaters feel ashamed or pressured to eat food."
“That is why it’s important to understand the factors that act to ‘push and pull’ this behavior.”
