44 per cent of workers say they don't want to participate in a workplace Secret Santa.

Secret Santa – a staple part of office Christmas celebrations – involves each member of staff picking a colleague’s name from a hat, and buying that person a gift.

500 workers across 32 counties were surveyed via pollsters Bounce Insights in December 2022.

The research carried out by charity Movember found over a third buy the present at the last minute, and 41 per cent say it's a waste of money.

One in four say they dread the annual tradition, while 39 per cent admit to leaving the present behind them in the office afterwards.

49% of participants have feigned interest in a gift that they received to avoid any awkwardness.

The charity commissioned a poll as part of its ‘Cancel Secret Santa’ fundraising initiative.

The initiative asks people to forgo the tradition and reroute the money they would’ve spent on meaningless gifts, into donations to Movember Ireland.

Johnny Owens, Country Director at Movember Ireland says:

'It’s fair to say that the novelty has worn off novelty presents, so instead of filling a landfill with novelty mugs and Bieber t-shirts, you could donate to Movember Ireland that will help us to support men’s health programmes here.'
