A staple in the kitchen in the morning time or even as a midnight snack - there's no denying how delicious buttery toast is.

But did you know how you spread butter on your toast apparently says a lot about your personality.

There are three categories of how people disperse the spread onto toast - you could be a Glider, a Clumper or a Crust Avoider.

Human behavioral researcher Darren Stanton claims "gliders", who glide the knife over the bread for an even spread, are easy-going and calm in nature.

Those who spread butter all the way, including the crusts, are methodical and organised.

Clumpers who leave clumps on the toast are sporadic and think outside the box.

While people who smother the bread with butter have a happy disposition and see the best in life.

"This seemingly simple task becomes a canvas of our subconscious, revealing traits we might not even be aware of," says Mr Stanton.

“The next time you spread your toast, remember, you could be revealing more about your personality than you might think.”

The average person spreads butter on a whopping 574 slices of bread per year, research suggests.
