Blue Monday takes place tomorrow

A consultant pychiatrist is warning the public that there is no evidence backing ''Blue Monday''.

Blue Monday typically takes place on the third Monday of January - which falls tomorrow.

It's the name given to a day in January said to be the most depressing day of the year.

Lack of daylight and general post-Christmas slump can lead to many people feeling down and lacking in motivation on the day.

Professor of Psychiatry in UCD, Dr Patricia Casey, says weather and short days are big factors in affecting mood:

"There's no research evidence behind that [Blue Monday]. When the weather is cold, miserable and wet, and the days are very short, people feel miserable.

"But it's nothing to do with a particular date".
