Women are paying 500 euro more for car insurance because they're not as likely to hold a full license.

That's according to the company MissQuote.ie, which claims major savings would be made if more women moved on from a provisional license.

In 2020, 26 per cent more men sat the driving test than women.

While almost 60 per cent more men aged between 17 and 20 had their full licence in 2020.

Deirdre McCarthy, manager at Missquote.ie said

“As this age group often pay through the nose for car insurance, it’s likely that tens of thousands of young Irish women are paying at least €500 more for their car insurance than they would if they sat and passed their driving test.”

Nearly 200,000 more men than women hold a full driving licence in Ireland, according to CSO figures.

Overall, 1,509,482 men held a full driving licence in 2020, compared to 1,324,588 women
