Know someone who's always complaining about how cold the office is?

They could be onto something as a new study shows women work better in warmer temperatures compared to men, who perform better in a cooler office.

A new study published in the PLOS One journal surveyed 500 students through a series of tasks at a variety of temperatures. The women and men carried out the tests in temperatures ranging from 16.19 C to 32.57 C.

It found that women are better at maths and verbal tests in a warmer setting while it was the opposite for men.

The research said:

"The increase in female performance in response to higher temperature is significantly larger and more precisely estimated than the corresponding decrease in male performance," reads the study.

"Our findings suggest that gender mixed workplaces may be able to increase productivity by setting the thermostat higher than current standards."

Well, there ya go then.
