48 hour delay to mandatory covid testing for people arriving into the country

The Government has delayed the introduction of mandatory covid tests for international passengers arriving into the country.

The measure was supposed to come into effect today but has been delayed by 48 hours.

The Justice Minister says the delay relates to the signing of regulations and was not intentional.

Meanwhile the cabinet sub-committee on covid will meet today to discuss NPHET advice.

It's been confirmed that the cabinet sub-committee on Covid-19 will meet this morning to consider NPHET advice.

They met yesterday to discuss and consider new restrictions due to the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Limits on the numbers of households allowed to mix may be reintroduced.

It's understood to be proposing one household only be allowed gather with three others until mid-February.

NPHET's recommending Government also cut the number allowed at tables in restaurants and pubs from 10 to 6.

They're also set to consider reducing opening hours.
