Stoneybatter has been named as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.

The north Dublin suburb sits in 40th place in a list of the top 50 most exciting neighbourhoods.

More than 27,000 people were surveyed for the poll by Time Out magazine.

It describes Stoneybatter as "one of Dublin's favourite districts" which in the past year has seen a "string of great new openings, from vegan cafés to hot new bars."

Louise Peacock, whose family owns Kavanagh's pub in Stoneybatter, says there's always something to do in and around the area.

"There's always something going on, there's always an event, there's always something to do.  One night of the week you could find a trad night in one of the pubs, then another night of the week you could find bingo...you could find something really cool to eat, there's always something new popping up and it's just lovely.  You can never get bored in an area like that."

Louise also says that in her opinion, the people of the area make it special.

"Everybody knows everybody and they look out for each other.  There's always somebody to talk to, there's always a place to go, there's always people to meet.  It's very welcoming for anybody outside the community to come in.  There's all different sorts of people who have blended so well. We're very lucky."
