96 foreign tourists from a number of EU countries have broken Covid travel laws in an Austrian ski resort.
A number of Irish tourists have been found to be breaching Covid travel laws at an Austrian ski resort.
Authorities in St Anton say fines have been issued to people from different countries, including Ireland, the UK, Germany and Poland.
96 foreign tourists in total from a number of countries are facing fines of over 2 thousand euro.
The rules in St Anton allow ski lifts to open but hotels are closed to international visitors.
The town's mayor says some of the tourists registered as job-seekers to get around the restrictions, even though no work is available.
Police in the country’s Tyrol region carried out “inspections of accommodation establishments, in particular for the inspection of second homes in the Landeck district”.
The police said in a statement that the aim of the inspections was “to determine any violations of the Registration Act.
They wanted "to check the use of secondary residences in accordance with the dedication, and, on the other hand, to identify any evasions/ violations of the Covid-19 Entry Ordinance and then to initiate the appropriate health authority measures."
