It's considered the "best meteor shower of the year".

Well that's what NASA says anyway, and who are we to question NASA?

But, if you want to see for yourself, we've got all the details of the glorious night sky treat.

The Perseid Meteor shower has already begun, but will hit its peak on August 11/12th.

Beginning on July 17, the meteor shower takes place every night until August 26.

But, on the night of August 11th, it's expected the rate of shooting stars will be at its highest, with about 50 meteors per hour.

And there's more good news.

Because the moon will be only 13% illuminated that night.

So if we're lucky enough to get clear skies, we'll be making wishes all night!

All areas in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to enjoy the shooting star spectacle.

But, here's some tips specific for watching from Ireland:

1. Try get away from city lights as much as you can.

You'll get the best view if the area is at its darkest.

Along with that, avoid being near tall buildings or trees if you can.

2. Check the cloud forecast in your area beforehand.

And if there's an area nearby that seems clearer, plan a stroll there!

3. Be prepped

Wear warm, comfortable clothes, you may want to stay out longer than you expect!

4. Timing

You'll get the best view if the area is at its darkest, so try avoid those city lights.

Along with that, stay away from tall buildings and trees, a nice wide sky is best!

5. Equipment

Just yourself!

No binoculars or telescope needed!

It's also recommended to not be on your phone, to give your eyes the best chance to adjust properly.

So, pop that alarm/reminder on for the night of August 11th!!
