A multi vehicle pile-up has resulted in the closure of the M6 eastbound between Junction 5 Tullamore and Junction 3 Rochfort Bridge.
The westbound carriageway is open.
Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene - the number of people injured has not been confirmed.
Motorists are asked to divert to the N52 Mullingar.
