It looks like the mystery of how Santa delivers so many presents to boys and girls on Christmas Eve has been solved.

Professors at Trinity College Dublin say they've found the solution.

Quantum physics looks to be the answer according to a paper by Professor John Goold and Dr. Mark Michison.

Quoted in the Irish Independent they say, "In a nutshell, quantum mechanics allows objects and, in this case, Santa and Rudolph, to be in many places simultaneously.

Key ingredient

"That is the key ingredient which allows for his extraordinarily efficient delivery on Christmas Eve. Santa Claus is in fact exploiting quantum mechanics to deliver the gifts.

"There is little doubt now to quantum physicists that Santa is exploiting what we know as 'macroscopic quantum coherence', which is precisely the same resource used by cutting-edge quantum technologies to outperform technologies based on classical physics."

However, children are still advised to go to bed early on Christmas Eve, for fear of reducing Santa's quantum superposition.

"We are pretty sure that Santa has developed some advanced technology to protect his quantum superposition and stop such a collapse from ruining Christmas," Dr. Michison said.

"But just in case, we advise children to go to bed early on Christmas Eve and suggest they don't try to catch a glimpse of him and risk collapsing his superposition."
