An online petition has been created calling for the teacher to be sacked.

A father from Pennsylvania, USA, has gone viral after he shared a picture of his son's school math test results, which featured a scathing comment from his teacher.

Chris Piland's son is in the second grade of school, meaning he would be either seven or eight years of age in the US school system.

The boy had attempted a timed maths test and managed to get through only 13 out of 60 questions in the three minutes allocated.

Kamdyn's teacher allegedly wrote a note across the top of his paper labelling it "absolutely pathetic" as "he answered 13 in 3 min! Sad." The note featured a sad face, seemingly to punctuate her point.

"My son Kamdyn's teacher has been so rude to him and myself all year he comes home with this and I am beyond frustrated that someone would write this on a child's work such great motivation," wrote Piland in a Facebook post where he shared a photograph of the test.

The Facebook post has since attracted more than 1600 comments and been shared 356 times, with many people calling for action to be taken against the teacher.

Since Piland shared the post on social media, an online petition has been started to have the teacher fired, collecting over 17,000 signatures so far.

Online responses were also of the opinion that the teacher be reprimanded or fired.

"This 'teacher' is pathetic!!"

"My dad taught elementary school for his entire career, and would be blown away to see this," commented one person. "Completely unacceptable! This 'teacher' is pathetic!!"

"It's obvious, she SHOULD NOT BE A TEACHER," replied another.

And one said they would be at the school immediately: "I would be at the school, that is the teaching bullying him and this out of line she should be helping and this is just discouraging him from learning and she might be the problem why [he] is unable to complete his work."

In a statement provided to Fox News, Rose Minniti, the school's superintendent confirmed an investigation was underway into the teacher and the Valley View School District.
