The ban already affects most European countries, but excludes Ireland and the U.K.

Donald Trump's plan to exclude people from 26 mainland nations in Europe comes into effect today.

Ireland and the U.K are currently not on the list.

The US president indicated that in light of an escalation in the number of reported cases, the ban could be extended to include the UK.

Donald Trump is defending the ban, which applies from today for the next month.

One passenger who travelled to Newark Airport from London Heathrow said, "There is no screenings when you enter- they just ask have you been to China, Iraq or Europe. They don't even check your passport to see if you have visas from those countries."

J1 Visas have also been suspended for 60 days with a possible 30 day extension on hold.
