We’re celebrating Foster’s Fridays and with that in mind we’ve decided to have a look at our favourite Aussie films. So, if you’re kicking back watching your favourite Aussie flick, make sure to have a Foster’s in your hand!

1. Muriel’s Wedding

This 1994 comedy classic featuries Toni Collette as the uncool and rather awkward ABBA-obsessed title character who hopes to one day turn it all around after a glamorous wedding to the perfect man. Turns out it’s not all that easy though!

2. Strictly Ballroom

The first in director Baz Luhrman’s red curtain trilogy (the others being Romeo + Juliette and Moulin Rouge!), Strictly Ballroom is a proper Australian classic. This 1992 flick features dancing, glitzy costumes and a memorable Cyndi Lauper montage.

3. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Also filed under “glitzy costumes and great dancing”, Priscilla tells the story of three men who hop in a camper van and drive across Australia, all while dressed up as women. It stars Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in The Matrix), Guy Pearce (Mike from Neighbours) and Terence Stamp (Superman’s General Zod) and is one of ultimate road trip movies.

4. Rabbit-proof fence

This 2002 flick recounts the true story of three mixed-race Aboriginal children who try to outwit the authorities on a 1500-mile journey back to their hometown. It’s thoughtful, beautifully shot and tells an important part of Australian history.

5. Crocodile Dundee

This is up there with Kylie and Home and Away as one of Australia’s most famous exports. The film, which is jam-packed with Aussie cliches and dodgy plot, is still loved around the world. Even those who don’t love it can still quote it.
