Road trip to Scotland?

Imagine this! You grab your mates, jump in the car, and cruise on over to Scotland for the weekend.

No buses, no airports, no planes... Wouldn't it be grand?

Well it could soon be a reality lads! If this proposed bridge connecting Ireland to Scotland goes ahead.

It's the vision of top UK Architect Alan Dunlop, who says the bridge would be majorly beneficial and cost effective for both countries.

The National Scot is reporting, that a proposed road and railway crossing would be built conneting Portpatrick in Scotland and Larne in Northern Ireland.

The bridge would be 25-miles (40km) long

Speaking on BBC Radio about the proposal, Mr Dunlop said: "There are two ways it could go. It could go from Portpatrick to Bangor or Larne, but there are significant environmental and geological challenges there.

"We do have incredibly talented architects and engineers in Scotland so I am sure that as a technical challenge it wouldn't be insurmountable.

"The shorter route would be from around Campbeltown, the Mull of Kintyre across to the Antrim coast.

"It would be a wonderful thing - a connection between Scotland and Ireland."

Wonderful doesn't even begin to describe it... Imagine the craic! Fingers crossed it happens...
