The British health secretary's urged people in areas under lockdown to 'behave as if they have the virus'.
The announcement yesterday prompted a dash by many people before the measures were introduced, and crowds formed at some train stations in London.

Thousands of Irish people living in the UK have been forced to cancel plans to spend Christmas at home after new lockdowns were announced last night.
London, south east England and Wales were put under Tier 4 restrictions at midnight, due to a surge in Covid-19 cases linked to a new strain of the virus.
There's a ban on travel, non-essential retail must close and households can't mix - even on Christmas Day.
