Are you bold enough to try this?
Eggs in the morning? Good.
Coffee in the morning? Good.
The two mixed together? Erm, we don't know about that...
Believe it or not the practice of dropping a raw egg into a hot pot of black coffee has taken in Hungarian, Scandinavian, and Vietnamese culture for centuries.
And now, it's growing in popularity once again.
Supposedly, by cracking an egg into your Cuppa Joe, you get actually get a thick, creamy, sweet drink that gives you a real kick.
While consuming raw eggs can be dangerous, the heat of a piping hot cup of coffee (around 200 degrees) is enough to kill any harmful bacteria - Dropping an egg into a warm cup isn't recommended however.
Speaking to Men's Health UK Marc Bubbs, the director of nutrition for the Canadian Men’s National Basketball Team said:
“I’ve used egg coffee a few times before, doing some fasted cardio in the morning.”
“It was a nice boost, similar to Bulletproof Coffee, but with the nutrient-dense bonus of the yolk, compared to simply fatty acids.”
While that sounds all well and good, we still aren't convinced.
This is one food trend we might be happy to avoid.
