A 49-year-old man has appeared in court accused of driving a truck that broke through the gates of the Russian Embassy in Dublin.
Desmond Wisley, from Tully, Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim, appeared before Tallaght District Court this morning charged with dangerous driving and criminal damage.
Mr Wisley, who was not represented by a solicitor, addressed the court to confirm his name and to agree to bail conditions set out by Gardaí.
He has agreed to stay away from the Orwell Road in Dublin 14 and to avoid any direct or indirect contact with Russian Embassy staff.
Garda Aishling Conroy of Tallaght Garda Station told the court Mr Wisley must also avoid the Ailesbury Road in Dublin 4, as well as posting about the charges on social media.
He'll appear in court again on April 26th.
Russian Embassy
The Irish Ambassador to Moscow was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry today over yesterday's incident.
According to the Russian news agency Tass, the Ministry demanded an official apology from Irish authorities and full compensation for damage caused.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs has said the Department does not comment on security issues or incidents.
The spokesperson also said the Department remains in regular contact with Russia's Embassy in Dublin on a range of issues and the same is the case in respect of our Embassy in Moscow and the Russian Foreign Ministry.
