"Chaotic scenes."

Shoppers across Ireland and the UK rushed to Aldi this morning to get their hands on the supermarket's soft toy, Kevin the Carrot.

The adorable character has featured in Aldi's Christmas ads for three years now and he's hugely popular.

The newly launched toy collection includes Kevin, his wife Katie and their children Jasper, Chantenay and Baby Carrot.

The retail giant also added new character Pascal the Parsnip.

There were reports of massive queues before stores opened this morning, with some shoppers claiming that there were "scraps and crushing".

Customers also took to social media to say they had witnessed grown adults fighting to get their hands on the toys.

Twitter user @stuartfergus said: "Never seen anything like that before...old people getting knocked off their feet and kids pushed out the way."

In a statement, Aldi said:

"Demand for our Kevin the Carrot toys has been exceptionally high. To avoid any disappointment, this year we increased the range by adding new characters such as Pascal the Parsnip, as well as the amount of soft toys available in each store."

"We also limited purchases to two variants per customer so as many people as possible had the chance to buy these products. As with all our Specialbuys products, these are only available while stocks last."
